High School Honors:  Three-year letter winner 1951-1953; started as defensive end in 1952; defensive and offensive end in 1953.

College Attended:  Compton Junior College, CA

College Honors:   Played second team at Compton; in 1956, transferred to U of A as a sophomore starter; two-way starter and second leading receiver in Border Conference in 1957; left college and enlisted in Marine Corps, where he played on a National Service Championship Team out of San Diego; named All-Marine team at guard in 1958; named All-Sea Service First Team playing offense and defense 1959.

Professional Athletic Background:  In 1959, signed to play with the Chicago Bears, but instead played one more year for service team; in 1960, started in Chicago Bears training camp; traded to Washington Redskins and played for 11/2 years offensive guard and tackle, as well as on special teams; played center in 1961; traded to Detroit Lions after 7 games; played center 1962-1965; won the Runner-Up Bowl with the Detroit Lions; played every offensive down in 1962 and 1963; coach Joe Wilson was quoted as saying, "Bob Whitlow is the best center in football" (1962); in 1966, traded to expansion team Atlanta Falcons and became starting center; was injured and released in 1968, but was picked up by the Cleveland Browns and snapped punts and field goals; injury forced him to retire from football in 1969.  

Coaching Experience:  Head coach at Madonna College in 1988-1989, posting a 13-17 record.
