High School Honors: 9 letters in football, basketball, and baseball; Northern Indiana Conference Most Valuable Player 1947; Indiana All-State Football Team 1946 and 1947; during three seasons as a halfback, scored 35 touchdowns and passed for 3 more.
College Attended: Indiana University Graduated: 1954
College Honors: As a sophomore in 1949, led Big Ten in shot put with a 40.8 yard average; repeated in 1951 with a 38.8 yard average; led Hoosiers in rushing and scoring in 1949 and 1950; named IU's Most Valuable Player in 1950, helping IU to its first victory over Notre Dame in 44 years; logged 2,799 all-purpose yards for the Hoosiers before his induction into the US Army; served in the Korean War and then returned to Indiana to play in the final 5 games in 1953; played baseball in the spring of 1954, batting .438 to lead the Big Ten and win a place on the All-Conference team.
Professional Athletic Background: Spent 3 years of minor league baseball with the Cincinnati Reds, but deteriorating eyesight due to diabetes ended his career.
Special Recognition: Was Chief Operator of the South Bend Wastewater Plant.
