High School Honors: Participated in football, basketball, and track; captain in all 3 sports.

College Attended: Butler University                               Graduated: 1933

College Honors: Participated in football, basketball, and track; captain of basketball team and earned All-State honors.

Professional Athletic Background: Played basketball for Kautsky's Olympians; was a member of the NBL (forerunner of the NBA), participating for 5 years.

Coaching Experience: Started coaching in 1936 and continued through 1950 as an offensive and defensive line coach, with teams winning 10 city championships and numerous Western Indiana Conference Championships.

Outstanding Players Coached: Ed McGovern, Rose-Poly and University of Illinois; Ernest Sprinkles, Michigan State; Robert Harmas.

Special Recognition: Was an official for 40 years; served as president of Wabash Valley Officials Association; was president of Indiana Collegiate Conference and Hoosier Collegiate Conference; instrumental in developing criteria at collegiate level for selection of only the most competent officials to be admitted to membership in the ICC and HCC; helped to develop use of officiating teams in football for better coverage of the game.

Family: First wife, Sally (Deceased); second wife, Lucia; children, Ben, Judith, and Cyann; step-children Lucia, Paul, Kurt, Eric, and Karl; 9 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 7 great-step-grandchildren.

Mr. Proffitt passed away February 13, 1996.
