High School Attended:  South Bend Central   Graduated:  1941

High School Honors:  All-State 2 years in basketball and football; played 3rd base in baseball.

College Attended:  Purdue University            Graduated:  1950

College Honors:  All-American in basketball; captain of All-Star Basketball Team 1950; captain College All-Star Football Team; captain College All-Star Baseball Team; college career interrupted by WW II and professional team play.

Coaching Experience:  Assistant basketball coach at Purdue University 1949-1950.

Professional Athletic Background:  One of very few athletes to be drafted by 3 professional teams in 3 different sports - Boston Celtics #1 draft pick in basketball, Chicago Bears draft pick in football, and New York Yankees pick in baseball; played 2 years with Celtics and one season with Fort Wayne Pistons; played 3 years with Yankees and 2 years with Chicago Cubs Triple-A farm teams.

Professional Athletic Honors:  Rookie of the Year 1947-1948 in basketball, averaging 8 points per game.

Special Recognition:  Served 3 years in the military during WW II (1943-1946); inducted into Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980; member of Basketball Hall's 10-man Silver Anniversary Team in 1966; president of Edwin S. Ehlers & Associates, an insurance firm; served on numerous boards, committees, and organizations in South Bend area.

Family:  Wife, Joyce (deceased); children, Sally, Tom (Gwen), Polly, and Patricia; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ehlers passed away June 17, 2013.
